Glasses Sleeve: a tutorial

Sometimes it's fun to sew on a small scale. When I first started getting into sewing I made about 100 cases for my phone. It's a fun, quick little project that you'll actually use everyday. And it's a chance to get creative with colors and stitching. Here's a little tutorial for a sunglasses/eyeglasses sleeve. It's nice to just throw them in your purse and know that they won't get scratched by your keys or something.

Of course you could modify this tutorial to make any kind of sleeve. Laptop, phone, ipod, kindle, etc. Get creative!

Materials:

Outer Fabric
Lining Fabric
Batting
(you could substitute 1-2 sheets of felt)

Tutorial:

Lay your glasses down on your fabric. Cut so that there is about 1" on all sides of the glasses.

Cut the same size piece from your lining fabric.

Lay the outer fabric on an oversized piece of batting.

Now have some quilting fun!

Tip: to get parallel, straight lines I lined up the right side of my presser foot with the edge of the fabric

Now line up the foot with the stitch you just made.

Keep going and you'll have something like this:

Cut off the extra batting.

Sew as shown below:

Make sure your glasses fit nice and snug before cutting off the extra seam allowance.

Leave the outer piece inside out. Turn the lining piece right side out.

Insert lining into the sleeve.

This part is a little tricky and difficult to photograph. You want to line up the opening of the lining fabric and the outer fabric and sew around the circumference of the sleeve.

Pull out the lining and you'll have something like this:

Use a long object to poke the outer fabric right side out through the gap in the lining.

Now just sew the gap shut and poke the lining into the sleeve.

Use an iron to help give it a nice shape and  you're done!

A sleek and chic sleeve to protect your specs from scratches and bumps.

Hope you enjoy! Have a lovely day (:

I love the contrast of the turquoise thread against the gold fabric! It add some interest to an otherwise basic object. :)

I randomly found your blog on Pinterest, and after looking through every single post in one sitting, I was inspired yesterday to find my old sewing machine and give a cleaning. I used it for the first time in about 10 years to alter an old shirt, and this glasses case will be my first little project.

Thanks for being so awesome, creative, and willing to share!
