Spoonable Smoothies: a recipe

I live about 5 seconds from one of those little frozen yogurt stores. At Red Mango they serve these awesome spoonable smoothies with fresh banana and granola. Every now and then on the way to the bus stop I'd spring for the treat, but at $5 a pop I can't really afford to make it a habit. So I figured it would be easy enough to recreate on my own. I actually like making it at home a little better because I can control my own portion size.  Extra granola, yum!

How great would these be to give to the kids to eat on the way to school? Or to take on your way to work? Delicious and nutritious. So here's the recipe in case you're interested. It makes about 20 oz., enough for one large smoothie or 2 smalls.

1 cup Almond Milk
1 heaping cup Frozen Fruit
2 tbsp Peanut Butter
Dash of Honey
1/4 cup Granola
1 Fresh Banana

Blend Almond milk, fruit (I used strawberries and bananas), peanut butter, and a dash of honey. Add more milk if needed.

Pour into your glass, leaving at least an inch of room at the top.

Slice up your banana

and top your smoothie off with as much crunchy granola and fresh banana as you want. I finished mine with a little drizzle of honey on top. Sometimes I like to add cheerios too for the added crunch.

It's such a yummy on-the-go treat.

Just stir it up..

and take a bite! Okay it's not as pretty here but trust me, it's delicious.

  9. These looks amazing! I make smoothies every morning for breakfast, but I usually use Greek yogurt (which gets expensive), and I like your idea of using Almond milk instead of regular! I love granola, too. Making these tomorrow- I'll probably add ground flax seed, too. Love your blog as always!

  10. I used to work at a Red Mango and the exact recipe is as follows:
2 heaping tablespoons of peanut butter
Half to three-quarters of a banana
4 heaping tablespoons of chopped strawberries
About 5 to 6 ounces of liquid yogurt (you can use a combo of plain yogurt and almond milk or regular milk for the tanginess of the yogurt)

Blend everything together and top with a couple tablespoons of granola, the other half of the banana (sliced), and honey if you want.

  16. Best Hand Blender Reviews is an excellent free and open source 3d package and its capabilities are growing rapidly. It has a terrific and very supportive community behind it. With that in mind, there are a plethora of online tutorials to follow. The getting started tutorials from, BlenderCookie, Blender Guru are just a few of the resources to learn Blender. You can always join the community and ask for support - but the best way (and it's the same for ANY 3d package - or anything else for that matter) is just to start creating in it. Practice, practice, practice! It's all about the mileage.

As far as part two of your question, there are some things that you could keep in mind when choosing a 3d package: What are you going to be creating? Is it for product viz? Arch viz? Games? Motion graphics? Character animation? Each 3d package has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, while Max is just fine for character animation, it really shines in game asset creation/animation, arch and product viz. Maya on the other hand really specializes
