Sleeves, ta-da!

Sometimes I'll go through the rack at a store and think, I love this but, I just wish it didn't have blank. Or this would be great if it had blank.  It's one of the things I love most about sewing. The power to transform clothing into something that fits your own unique sense of style.

Owning a serger (read about mine here) has made this soo much easier. A material like this (flowy chiffon-like) would be very difficult to keep from fraying without serging. There are some options such as using pinking shears, a bias tape, or hemming the raw edge. None of these are as effective or as easy as serging. So if you're on the fence about making the purchase, I would highly recommend you do. Especially if you'd like to get into more apparel sewing.

I found this top in the Target clearance rack. I wasn't crazy about the shape. The extra fabric at the sides gathered in a way that was unflattering. But I loved the unique print, enough to where I couldn't pass it up. It only took about 10 minutes to make the modifications needed.

I more or less eyeballed the first cut. Then I used the cut-out material to trace and replicate the same on the other side.

Much better right? I wore it over a lace tank I made last summer.

Hope you have a great week (:

  6. I referred back to your post about your serger and at that time you said you weren't in love with it. How about now that you've had it a while? I really want a serger but don't want to spend a LOT of money.
