DIY Lip Balm/Cuticle Cream

I found this awesome idea via Pinterest. I'm quickly getting addicted to that site. All credit goes to Jess at Lost Button Studio. Click  here to see her original post.

This is one of those great, instant gratification projects. It's so simple and completely natural.

First Find a tin to house the cream. My mom gave me this beautiful Brighton tin. I love the colors. Jess used Altoid tins, another great way to store the balm.

Melt 1.5 ounces of beeswax and 3 ounces of your favorite carrier oil (I used Apricot Kernel oil)  in the micowave. When all the wax is melted add 1 tablespoon of Honey.  Pour into your tin (Be careful, it's really hot!).  Let sit at room temperature until hardened.

Where can I find these supplies?

I found beeswax in a 1 lb. bar at Hobby Lobby. I think most craft supplies stores would carry it. Also there are some great sellers on Etsy that sell all natural beeswax. I found this sweet little store today. Her story made me smile. She and her husband sell honey, wax, and homemade candles cultivated from their own honey bees.

I found the apricot kernel oil at Central Market. Any health foods store should carry carrier oils like this one. You could also use a different carrier oil such as Almond oil or Grapeseed oil.

Throw it in your purse for a great on-the-go moisturizer!

  1. I am typically just a reader and not a commenter, but know that I love your blog. I did want to clarify something though. Apricot kernel oil is a carrier oil and not an essential oil. They should not be confused. If one used 3 oz of essential oil it would turn out to be a very expensive project. Almond oil, olive oil, hazelnut oil, etc, are also carrier oils.
I hope I am not stepping on toes here.
That being said, that is a great idea! Thanks for sharing it. I love the tin that your mom gave you, super cute.

  8. What an easy idea. My daughter has extremely dry skin and I'm always looking for ways to keep lotion around, like in her backpack, my purse, the car, etc. This would be perfect and cute for us to carry. And she could "help" me make it, so that might encourage her to actually use it! :)

  9. Saw this post and thought it would be a wonderful & unique idea to make a bunch of little tins for favors for my sisters baby shower.... however it seems that the honey just sits in the bottom of the mug that I melted the other stuff in. Is this what it looked like when you did it? I feel like the honey will only get into the last container I pour the mix in
