A Little Bit Thrifty

One of my favorite things to do is upcycle clothing.  I frequent the thrift stores in my area. Sometimes I'll find all kinds of great things and sometimes I won't find anything. I think the key is to not really know what you're looking for.

I try to be open minded when shopping at secondhand stores. I often go to look for interesting fabric. You find garments from the 80's and 90's (Evidenced by the thick shoulder pads).  I look in the large women's dresses and long skirts, and when I find a print I love, I take it home to give it a new life.

Sometime you'll find a dress that you love, only to find that it's three sizes too big. Don't let this discourage you. Taking in clothing to fit you is easier than you think. Sometimes all a big tent dress needs is a belt to cinch in the waist. If not, you can always take it to the sewing machine!

I found this skirt at a local thrift store for $3.50! It was originally marked $5 but, it was their sale day and I got it for 30% off.

I loved the print but it was a few sizes too big. It just needed a quick stitch. Here's what I did:

Speaking of thrifting, has anyone seen that new show on planet green "Dresscue Me"? Similar concept. The show follows Shareen Mitchell who upcycles vintage dresses to be sold in her store. I've only seen a couple of episodes and I'm already loving it. It gives you a whole new appreciation for vintage.

  1. I think you did a great job! I love the print but it's always dissapointing when stuff is too big! I recently picked up two XL dresses that were gorgeous..... but I'm usually an XS or S. Kind of a difference. I plan on either taking them in for me or for my mom. Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. Based on the Hillary Jordan novel, this period drama charts the relationships and racial conflict between two farming families in the 1939 Mississippi Delta. Taking audiences from the brutal battlefields of World War II to the mud-sucking fields of a community on the brink of eruption, co-writer/director Dee Ree's explosive drama earned plenty of praise from critics as well as four Oscar nominations. Among these accolades were, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Mary J. Blige, who was also nominated for Best Original Song, "Mighty River." Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Pinjara Khubsurti ka online Rob Morgan, Jason Mitchell, and Garrett Hedlund were also a part of an ensemble, heralded for their powerful performances.

Animated films often fall into categories of kid-friendly comedies, chipper musicals, or rollicking adventures. This extraordinary French film not only breaks from expectation by being a tender drama, but also offers something scintillatingly strange by making its protagonist a dismembered hand in search of his missing body. Adapted from the Guillaume Laurant novel, this Jérémy Clapin-directed cartoon delivers a riveting journey through the suburbs of Paris, from cozy apartments and dangerous subways Barrister Babu episode to glittering rooftops and a jolting realization. With a sophisticated aesthetic and complex emotional narrative, I Lost My Body won praise on the film festival circuit and a slew of critics' guilds, as well as the César for Best Animated Feature. If you're not much for subtitles, worry not! Netflix also offers a meticulous English over-dub.
