Materials:
1/ 2 yd Lace
1/2 yd Backing Fabric
Matching thread
(ignore the elastic thread shown in the pic)
Tutorial:
My original intention for this project was a shirred waist skirt. Some silky grey fabric with a lace overlay and a simple shirred waist sounded easy enough. However silk is far from the easiest material to work with and I couldn't get it to lay right in order to sew the lines of shirring. So I scratched that idea and went for a scarf instead. And hey, it turned out pretty cute!
Begin by cutting your lace and backing fabric into 18" x 45" rectangles. Pin the 45" sides of the fabric right sides together.
Sew along each 45" side
Turn inside out and you'll have something like this:
Bring the two ends together and pin the lace fabric right sides together.
Sew with a 1/2 inseam.
Turn the scarf inside out so that the seams are exposed and pin your backing fabric right sides together.
Sew as shown below (with a 1/2" inseam), leaving about a 4 inch gap opening.
Turn scarf right side out through your gap and secret stitch the opening.
And done!
Maybe not as cute as the skirt I had envisioned, but pretty darn close!

This is awesome! I'm not much of an accessory person (mainly because of cost), but this looks like something I could definitely rock out.
I'm going to be looking for lots of different lace and fabric combinations now!
By the way, did you ever decide to open an etsy store? :)

I love this! And this sounds like really easy instructions (thanks), and I'm a seriously beginner sewer! maybe I can make my own with some fabric I have laying around!

I came across your blog via pinterest when this tutorial was pinned. It's absolutely adorable! I couldn't stop myself once I started browsing your blog. You have some amazing talent! I have no idea how to use a sewing machine, but my mother used to make her own clothes as a child so I'm hoping she can teach me. I'm definitely going to utilize your blog as inspiration
I loveeeeeeeeeeee this. You should totally sell these! Beautiful!
I made 3 today-- two for me and one for my sister-in-law! I pinned this on pinterest awhile back. Thank you so much for showing how to do this and sharing your talent. :)

Hi Katy!!!
I added a link from my blog´s post to your tutorial
Check it ;-)
Hi, quick question: I'm making these right now and find that the backing fabric I used doesn't lay really well. I chose a satin-y liner fabric, thinking it would look very pretty and dressed-up, but I'm not so pleased with it now--it's too busy and, yeah, doesn't lay well. What kind of fabric did you use? Is it a cotton?
Thank you so much for such an easy tutorial and a great product at the end!!
I was originally going to make a different type of scarf, off of directions from another site, but it didn't work! The result looked like a wet tube sock! AWFUL!!
But thanks to your site, I tried your tutorial and it WORKED!! You saved my fabric and CHRISTMAS!!
I've given a few away and they thought I BOUGHT the scarf, not make it!! You've given me the confidence and pleasure to start sewing again!!
From now on, I'll be coming to your site first!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
I LOVE THIS! Adding to my January crafty to do list for next Christmas!
Simple, yet adorable idea! Made these for Christmas gifts!
great, I'm going to try that one too!
thanks for charing.
Ooooh JUST finished this now (first official project on my new sewing machine!)...it's super easy, I just wish you had specified to sew all the way to the edges, or at least overlapping the other sewn edge when you are sewing the short sides together - I didn't go all the way to the edge on the lace side and got a hole!
Otherwise, REALLY pretty and REALLY easy! My sister sent this to me to look at, and I'm giving it to her for her bday!
ALSO, to note, if you want to be able to loop it around your head twice, I would make it maybe 50% longer.
Thanks!!!!!
This was my very first sewing project! Thank you for the easy how-to. I love my new scarf! By the way, I just read you were from the Ft. Worth area. I am from Burleson and currently attending Texas State! Just thought that was neat, haha.
Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to make one for myself with this special fabric I've been saving for the perfect use, this is it!!
Great tutorial! See how mine turned out here:

This is awesome! I did one similar to your's, except the backing is grey and the lace is black. I love mine!!! I've seen scarves like this at Downeast for a price I just couldn't afford, but with this tutorial, I made mine in about 20 minutes. It's now my favorite accessory. Thanks so much!!!
Now I'm liking this idea alot! Just may do it soon. It would got with alot of things. Off white lace would look nice as well. Got this link from Happy Housewife blog! Thanks for sharing!
This is beautiful!
