Shake n' Bake

I've been itching to bake for awhile, and now that I'm finally done with school I've got time! Thankfully almost all these treats will be wrapped up and given away, so I won't be tempted. 

With a poor college student's budget I don't have the funds to buy everyone on my list a store-bought gift. Baking is the easy, no-sew answer. So for the last couple of days, I've been a baking queen and have dirtied just about every dish we have. But the results speak for themselves and I'm about half way done with my Christmas "shopping". Three cheers for that!

    LOVE That you put it in a jar!

    question: How do you get good melted chocolate!? I always fail,the chocolate gets hard after a while (I don't have a double boiler,so I use a big pot and a small pot)

    candy is one of the best gifts, even if you do have tons of money! i'm making some too. random question for you, how did you get no chocolate in the middle of your pretzels?? this is my first time not doing rods, and it's taking me forever and i'm still having chocolate fill the holes.

    also, love your jar packaging!

    Thanks ladies! I always use a spoonful (or more) of crisco to thin the chocolate. Works great and doesn't seem to leave a funny taste.

    Then I fish out each pretzel with fork and bang it against the side of the pot. Helps to get the chocolate only where I want it (:

    What great ideas - I especially like the look of the chocolate covered pretzels. Simple but effective!

    I made up jars of cookie mix for my sisters - you put all the dry ingredients in a jar (for Cowgirl cookies) and then all the person has to do is add the wet ingredients and bake. The ingredients looked great all layered in the jars and I added green & red M&Ms to make it more Christmassy. I found the idea on Bakerella's website. :)

    I wanted to get small gifts for all my co-workers without having to spend my entire Christmas bonus. This is a wonderful idea. I know Michael's and Jo-Ann Fabrics have cute tins and containers (although your jar idea is great for year round gifting!)

    New follower here, you make me want to sew and craft and do all kinds of artsy things! I wish I had the patience to bake gifts for my loved ones, but my laziness tends to overwhelm my creative urges. I'm excited for the dog treats recipe though! They look simple enough and I do know a dog or two that would enjoy a treat=)

    Makinng gifts yourself is so much fun to do and over the last year I've found that people actually really apprecite the efford over store bough gifts. We don't celebrate Xmas in the Netherlands, but at Sinterklaas (Dec 5th) I gave lots of hand made presents like knitted scarves, crochets hats and gloves, sewed bags and home made jam. I love the cookie jar idea as well. Thanx!!
